Option A: Gola de Puchol viewpoint (The roadside jetty)
This is the most famous and easily accessible spot by car. It has a small wooden jetty extending slightly into the water.
- The reality: Because it is a free viewpoint with direct access from the road, it can become very crowded. Finding a parking space at sunset can be a real challenge, and the experience loses some of its charm because of the traffic, noise and number of people all looking for the same selfie.
Option B: In the middle of the lake aboard a traditional boat (The real experience)
For us, there is simply no comparison. The best way to experience the sunset is to venture into the heart of the Natural Park from the village of El Palmar, aboard an albuferenca, the traditional flat-bottomed boat used on the lagoon.
- The experience: You glide peacefully across the water while the boat skipper switches off the engine in a strategic area of the lake. Suddenly, you find yourself surrounded by absolute silence, broken only by the calls of waterbirds.
